Future Watch: Billy Gilmour Soccer Cards, Chelsea – At the tender age of 19, Gilmour is showing the sort of promise that you normally see with a more experienced footballer.

Gilmour joined Chelsea’s program in 2017, ending his development with the Rangers Football Club in his native Scotland. At the time, Gilmour was merely 16 years old but he was already highly heralded, including by SFA officials. Gilmour reported to his new club’s U-18 squad and made an immediate impact, tallying in his first game (against Arsenal no less).

One year later, Gilmour, still not 18, signed his first professional contract with Chelsea. On August 31, 2019, Gilmour made his Premier League debut in relief of Tammy Abraham, and less than one month later had his first start, playing the full 90 minutes against Grimsby Town amid EFL Cup play.

Roughly a year ago, Gilmour was assessed by the The Daily Mail’s Secret Scout and the outlook was very strong. Among the accolades heaped on the Scottish standout were the following:

“Rarely caught in possession, he showed toughness at close quarters and his low centre of gravity and determination helped to extricate him from tight situations. He likes a tackle and has no fear of bigger and more muscular opponents. A right-footed player at around 5ft 7in, as captain he showed leadership and urged his colleagues on with a supportive voice.”
