Future Watch: Chris Herndon Rookie Football Cards, Jets – Chris Herndon was selected by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. There weren’t a lot of expectations thrust upon the rookie tight end entering this season. Most of that fell on rookie quarterback, Sam Darnold.
Herndon played his college ball for the Miami Hurricanes. In 2014, as a true freshman, he played in three games. He didn’t see much time.
In 2015, he ranked second among tight ends with 18 receptions for 237 yards. In played in all 13 games and started three of them. He was making progress.
In 2016, he played in all 13 games again and started twelve of them. He caught 28 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns. His yards were 4th most on the team for the receivers. He had three catches for 38 yards in a bowl game that was the end of the season.
In 2017, as a senior, he played in 11 games. He had 40 receptions for 477 yards and four touchdowns despite missing the final two games of the season with a season-ending injury.
At 6-4, 253 pounds he benched press the average weight 21 times. That was good enough to get him on the radar with more than a few scouts.
