Future Watch: Erick Mejia Baseball Cards, Kansas City Royals – Erick Mejia was signed by the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent in 2012.

From 2012-2015, he played for various rookie ball teams in the Mariners organization ending with the Arizona League Mariners. He had six doubles, two triples, 16 RBI, a .282 batting average with 20 steals.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in January 2016. Now 21, he started playing for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in A+ ball. The utility player hit 18 doubles, 12 triples, four home runs, 47 RBI and had 24 steals.

In 2017, Mejia started back in A+, then moved up to AA with the Tulsa Drillers, and he ended up in AAA with the Oklahoma City Dodgers. His final numbers were 21 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 41 RBI, 28 steals, and a .278 batting average while playing second base, shortstop and third base.

In January 2018, Mejia ended up in Kansas City as part of a three-player trade. In 2018-19, he played for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in AA. He hit 27 doubles, seven triples, five home runs, and 59 RBI with 34 steals.

For 2019-20, Mejia graduated to the Omaha Storm Chasers in AAA. He hit 22 doubles, six triples, seven home runs and 63 RBI, 19 steals, and had a .271 batting average. In September, the prospect was called up to the Kansas City Royals, where he hit a double and had four RBI in 22 at-bats. He played at second, short, and center field.

In 2020, Mejia was at the Royals’ alternate site until mid-September. He was called up and went 1 for 14 with a double and a steal, then sent back down.

Mejia will earn a spot on the Royals roster in 2021. He didn’t get ample playing time, and his talent is there. The fact that he’s versatile will get him more at-bats. Keep an eye on him for sure.
