He was 16 at the time. By the time he was 17 the talented catcher was making his professional debut.

From 2013-16 he was hanging around A-ball. During that 2015 season he showed more power. He had nine homers and 53 RBI. The next season he had 11 homers and 80 RBI with two teams, the Lake County Captains and the Lynchburg Hillcats.

In 2017, he started the season in Double-A with the Akron RubberDucks. It was there he hit .333 with 21 doubles, 2 triples and 14 home runs with 52 RBI. He hit .297 and that got him noticed in Cleveland.

He got a September callup in 2017 and debuted on the first day of the month. He played in 11 games that season. He only had one RBI, but he got some valuable experience.

Still just 22, he started the season off in Triple-A with the Columbus Clippers. In his first 117 at-bats he had three homers, 14 RBI and five doubles. It was a decent start to the season as he continues to hone his skills.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

The switch-hitting Mejia has natural hitting ability from both sides of the plate. Though his approach is aggressive, Mejia generates consistently hard contact to all fields thanks to his advanced bat-to-ball skills and outstanding barrel control. His physical strength and bat speed generates sneaky raw power, especially from the left side, and he’s tapped into it more regularly as he’s climbed the ladder. ETA 2018

He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection.

Here’s a look at his first big-league hit:

He’s the Indians top prospect. That’s a good enough reason to start collecting him.
