Future Watch: Givani Smith Rookie Hockey Cards, Red Wings – Givani Smith was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings with the 46th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. At 6-2, 205 pounds, he’s what you want a power forward to be.

In 2014-15, he got his feet wet in junior hockey, playing 61 games with seven goals and 12 assists. When that season ended for him, at the age of 17, he got four points on the score sheet but more importantly when the Colts traded him to the Guelph Storm, postseason experience was now on his resume as well. In nine games he had five points.

In 2015-16, Smith showed his physical side with 146 penalty minutes to go along with 23 goals and 19 helpers in 65 games. That’s exactly what the Red Wings were looking for.

In 2016-17, the budding prospect had similar numbers, and this time 26 goals. When his season ended, he had a chance to play for the AHL affiliate of the Red Wings, the Grand Rapids Griffins for three games.

In 2017-18, the winger split time between Guelph and the Kitchener Rangers. He had an injury that season that limited him and he still managed to get 30 points in 46 games. His postseason lasted until the seventh game of the Conference Finals when his team was eliminated. In 18 games he had 11 goals and seven assists.

Collectors can find Givani Smith’s 2019-20 Young Guns Rookie Card in Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey. He also has NHL licensed rookie cards in other 2019-20 Upper Deck products including SP Game-Used. He also has cards 2017-18 Upper Deck CHL, 2016-17 In The Game Heroes & Prospects and 2015-16 Leaf Metal, as well.

Smith was up and down between Detroit and Grand Rapids in 2019-20. In the AHL, he had 19 points in 37 games. In the 21 NHL games in which he played, he tallied 2 goals and one assist.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:

Smith is strong, has good hands, and will go to the net. At 22, he’s still developing. Power forwards often take more time. Get him while his prices are low.
