Future Watch: Griffin Jax Rookie Baseball Cards, TwinsFuture Watch: Griffin Jax Rookie Baseball Cards, TwinsGriffin Jax was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the third round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft. His story is a bit different than most. He made his name pitching for the Air Force Academy.

The 6-2, 195 pound pitcher had a 9-2 season with a 2.05 ERA. In 105 1/3 innings, he struck out 90 and walked just 10. He was voted Mountain West’s pitcher of the year.

Jax’s dad, Garth, played baseball at Florida State and professional football for 10 years. He played linebacker and special teams for the Dallas Cowboys, Phoenix and later the Arizona Cardinals.

Right after the draft, Jax reported to the Elizabethon Twins in 2016. He went 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA. He pitched in four games and threw eight innings. He got his feet wet in rookie ball.

In 2017, he started out in rookie ball and ended with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In Class A he was 2-1 with a 2.39 ERA. He had 13 strikeouts in 19 innings. He walked only seven batters ending the season with a .099 WHIP.

He moved up a notch in Class A to start out 2018. While playing for the Fort Myers Miracle, he went 3-1 in his first 12 games. He had a 3.16 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 74 innings. He walked only nine during that stretch showing his great control.

He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection.

Here’s a video showing him getting a standing ovation when his baseball season ended, and he reported to active duty:

He has a deceptive windup and he can pick spots. There has never been a major leaguer who came from the Air Force Academy. He will try to create history in the future.
