Future Watch: Jake Luton Football Cards, Jacksonville Jaguars – Jake Luton was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The 6-7 230-pound quarterback isn’t very well known, but he’s about to make a big splash.
Jake Luton was born in Marysville, Washington and attended Marysville-Pilchuck High School. When he graduated, he was a two-star recruit. He attended the University of Idaho and was a true freshman in 2014 and was redshirted as a result.
In 2015, Luton played in eight games and threw for 408 yards and one passing touchdown, and had five rushing touchdowns as a backup.
In June 2016, he announced he was transferring to Ventura College in Southern California, and in his redshirt sophomore season, Luton passed for 3,551 yards and 40 touchdowns in 11 games.
After that great season, the talented quarterback transferred to Oregon State and in 2017, he won the starting job. Luton played in four games throwing for 853 yards and four touchdowns with four interceptions, but a thoracic spine fracture ended his season.
In 2018, Luton was granted a fifth year of eligibility and played in just eight games throwing for 1,660 yards and 10 touchdowns against four interceptions. This time, an ankle injury limited his play. 2019 saw Luton granted a sixth year of eligibility and he made the most of it, throwing for 2,714 yards with 28 touchdowns and just three interceptions. After the season ended, Luton won the prestigious 2019 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Luton was invited to the NFL Combine but didn’t participate in the drills. He did have a pro day and showed off a 28.5 vertical leap and a slow 5.07 40-yard dash, but as a quarterback, it wasn’t going to drive teams away. His 10.38 hand size was equal to Brett Favre.
Collectors can find Luton’s rookie cards in 2020 Panini products such as Spectra Football, Absolute Football, and Immaculate Football to name a few.
Here’s a look at his arm and pocket presence:
Jaguars starting quarterback Gardner Minshew got a thumb injury, and Luton will get his first NFL start in Week 9. If you didn’t collect him before, now is a good time. He’s a good player to roll the dice on.
