Future Watch: Ja’Marr Chase Football Cards, Cincinnati BengalsJa’Marr Chase is a special talent. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the fifth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was the first wide receiver taken taken off the board. This Louisiana native first starred at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana. While there, he caught 115 passes for 2,152 yards and 30 touchdowns.
After high school, he reported to his home state Louisiana State University. When you have franchise player talent, playing as a true freshman is a part of that resume most times. That season was in 2018, and he played in every game while starting in eight, producing 313 yards and three touchdowns.
In 2019, Chase had 84 catches for 1,780 yards, most in the FBS and 20 touchdowns. He won the Fred Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football. Chase racked up 221 yards in a win against Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
The talented wideout opted out of the 2020 season to concentrate on the NFL Draft. For some, that would be a risk, not playing at all the year before you’re drafted, but he felt he was good enough to not have to play. And he was right.
Chase had his pro day and practically ran a sprinter’s speed with a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. His 41-inch vertical jump is important, because that leaping ability allows him to win 50-50 balls. He has great hands and notable strong hands, again, the sign of a franchise receiver. Bengals fans can’t wait to see him even in a preseason game.
The future All-Pro put on a show in rookie camp. Chase looked stronger, and he showed off some great footwork. That coupled with his speed is how he will get deep in the opposition’s secondaries this season. Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow has to be thrilled at the prospect of working him into the Bengals offense.
Some outlets are already choosing Chase as one of the favorites to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Let’s not forget that first overall pick, Jacksonville’s, Trevor Lawrence, 49ers Trey Lance are among those players, plus New York Jets, Zach Wilson is in that mix of very talented quarterbacks.

Collectors need to know, these kinds of receivers don’t come around in every draft. There are very talented receivers every draft, yes, but how often does one that gets mentioned with Julio Jones as a comparable. I only throw that out there to show how high he should be on your collecting shopping list. Time will tell for him, but he should be an impact player this season barring any unforeseen injury.
