Future Watch: Jan Rutta Rookie Hockey Cards, Blackhawks – Jan Rutta was signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as a free agent in June of 2017. The undrafted Czech defenseman is 27. He’s been playing overseas and he caught the eye of the Chicago front office.

In 2007-08, he did represent his country in the U18’s. And the next year he was in the U20’s. They weren’t very successful teams but he played among his countries elite players.

He played for Chomutov. His last three seasons there were good offensively. In 2014-15, he had 11 goals and 27 points. The next year he had 10 goals and 21 points and last season he had eight goals and 34 points. The point totals aren’t an exact science in seeing how a player will do playing in the NHL.

At 6-3, 200 pounds he has a pro body. So far this season he’s played in 43 games and he’s put up six goals and 19 points. If he got more power play time and a few more minutes a game his numbers could go up next season.

Rutta has a Young Guns rookie card in 2017-18 Upper Deck Series 2 hockey. He also has rookies in O-Pee-Chee and SP Game-Used as well. There is a gold digital Topps Skate of his card out there in limited production.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal that he picked up in early October:

This Czech has offensive abilities that have start to appear late in this season. He recently had a two-point game and that’s because he’s getting used to his new surroundings and playing on a smaller ice sheet on a regular basis. Rutta could be a sleeper. He could be a guy that scored more next season and beyond. Keep an eye on him because you never know.
