Future Watch: Jesse Iwuji Racing Cards, NASCAR – Jesse Iwuji is far more than a race car driver in the athletic sense. He played college football and ran track at Navy. Additionally, Iwuji is far more than a race car driver in terms of his public appeal, since his on-track accomplishments are more than matched by his tireless work in military-related philanthropy.
Athleticism runs deep in Iwuji’s family. The son of Nigerian immigrants, Iwuji’s mother and sister ran track while his brothers also played college football. Iwuji began investigating racing during his time at Navy in the 2000s. His first real steps came in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series in 2015. In May 2017, Iwuji transitioned to the Navy Reserve, culminating a tremendous military career that saw him become a Surface Warfare Officer.
Iwuji spent the 2010s working his way up through various circuits such as the ARCA Menards Series West, the ARCA Menards Series East, the NAPA Big 5 Late Model Series, the ARCA Menards Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. By 2020, Iwuji had worked his way up to the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Even as his on-track career has continued to progress, Iwuji has expanded off-track to a partnership with an NFL Hall of Fame running back in the form of the NASCAR Xfinity team Jesse Iwuji Motorsports. A two-time winner of the NASCAR Diverse Driver of the Year Award, Iwuji is absolutely central to the racing body’s efforts to broaden its appeal into non-traditional communities. Having started racing well past the age of any of his peers and having worked his way up to NASCAR’s second-highest racing circuit while performing a wealth of charitable and advocacy work, Iwuji is becoming an icon of inspiration on the track.
Iwuji’s cards thus far have come under the Donruss banner, with Autograph, Gold Vinyl and Holo among the selections. Autographed cards are among those available.
