Future Watch: Jose Azocar Rookie Baseball Cards, TigersJose Azocar was signed by the Detroit Tigers as an international free agent in 2012. He was 16 at the time. The talented outfielder has worked his way through the ranks as expected.

In 2013, he got his feet wet in rookie ball. In 2014 he set in on fire with a .340 batting average for the VSL Tigers.

In 2015, he was elevated to the Gulf Coast League. In 194 at-bats he hit .325 with 10 doubles, five triples and 29 RBI in 51 games.

In 2016, he hit .281 with 51 RBI in A-ball for the Western Michigan Whitecaps. In 2017, he played for the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the Florida State League. In 431 at-bats he had 10 doubles, six triples, three homers and 37 RBI. He hit .220, so he had some work to do.

He started out 2018 again with the Whitecaps. In 104 at-bats he had three homers, six triples, one home run and 16 RBI with a stellar .317 batting average. At the age of 22 it is starting to click so he got a promotion.

His second team was the Lakeland Flying Tigers. In his first 404 at-bats he had 17 doubles, nine triples, two homers and 50 RBI. He added 11 steals and a .297 average.

According to his MLB.com draft profile.

Azocar plays the game with passion and without fear. He’s very aggressive at the plate and definitely doesn’t go up looking to walk. Breaking balls still give him some trouble, and he chases pitches out of the zone too frequently, but when he’s under control, he has considerable offensive skills. He has the ability to make solid contact to all fields and while he hasn’t shown any semblance of power to date, the Tigers feel there’s a chance he’ll still grow into some. His speed allows him to steal some bases. He’s also an outstanding defender with a strong arm, one who has shown the ability to play both center and right. ETA 2019

He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection.

Azocar may not make the team next season but he’s on his way. His talent is starting to emerge.
