With Ben Roethlisberger firmly ahead of him for a few more years at least this talented quarterback will have some time to develop.

Dobbs attended the University of Tennessee. As a freshman in 2013 he started four games and played in five overall. The highlight of that season was two passing touchdowns and one 40-yard touchdown run.

The next season Dobbs won the starting spot in November. In a big comeback win against South Carolina he had three passing touchdowns and one rushing. That spark helped his team reach a bowl game for the first time since 2010. In the 2015 TaxSlayer bowl he led his team to a 45-28 win over Iowa. He passed for 129 yards and one touchdown and he ran in two. He was the MVP of that game.

2015 was his last season of college eligibility. He once again led his team into another bowl game. This time it was the 2016 Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee. In that game he passed for 291 yards and one touchdown and he ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns. Once again, he was the MVP of that game.

After an appearance in the Senior Bowl he was ready for the NFL Draft.

This prospect has alopecia areata an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. Collectors might have noticed that on his 2017 Panini Origins rookie card or possibly on Contenders or Optic.

Here’s what he looked like in preseason:

Dobbs played a lot in the preseason but never took a regular season snap. This season he hopes to win the backup job. Many think he can and if he does he could be well on his way to becoming the quarterback in waiting.

The Steelers have him signed to a four-year deal. Now 23, they hope this investment will pay off down the road.
