Future Watch: Kerryon Johnson Rookie Football Cards, Lions
Kerryon Johnson was selected by the Detroit Lions with the 43rd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. This Alabama native has the makings to be a star running back at the next level. As a senior at Madison Academy, he rushed for 1,659 yards and 25 touchdowns!
He played his college football at Auburn. As a freshman, he only got 52 carries. He had 208 yards and three touchdowns. He had some work to do in order to earn more carries.
As a sophomore in 2016, he started half of the 12 games. He got 182 carries, gaining 895 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns.
As a junior, he got 285 carries. That’s a far cry from his freshman year and he made the most of it. He gained 1,391 yards, had 32 touchdowns and had a long run of 60 yards. He was a Doak Walker Award semifinalist and he was voted first team, all-SEC. Johnson had 11-career 100-yard games and his career all-purpose yardage amounted to 3,625 yards.
Kerryon Johnson was ready for the NFL draft and he had a great combine. He is 6-0, 213 pounds, with terrific speed. Somehow, he slipped to the 11th pick of the second round.
In Week one for the Lions, he had eight carries for 43 yards and a whopping 5.4 yards per carry. Week three, against the Patriots, he had 16 carries for 101 yards and an even better 6.3 yards per carry. In Week four against the Cowboys, he had nine carries for 55 yards and a touchdown. Many of them were early in the game and fans want to see more and took to social media to vent their frustration.
