Future Watch: Kieffer Bellows Hockey Cards, New York Islanders – Kieffer Bellows, son of former NHL standout Brian Bellows is part of a growing number of second-generation hockey players who are looking to make their mark in the big league.

Selected 19th overall by the New York Islanders in 2016, Bellows first gained attention during his time with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL in 2014-15, where he tallied 33 goals and 52 points in 58 games and earned Rookie of the Year honors. The following season, he transferred to the U.S. National Development Team where he again put up impressive offensive numbers – 16 goals and 32 points in just 23 games.

The same year that he was picked up by the Isles in the DraftBellows committed to Boston University. Ultimately, however, he only played one season of NCAA before changing course and signing a three-year with New York. The Islanders, however, did not put him on the team’s roster immediately, and Bellows found himself playing in the CHL for the first time in his budding career. The time with the Portland Winterhawks definitely paid off, as the left winger was on fire in the WHL, counting 41 goals and 74 points in 56 regular season games.

In 2018-19, Bellows moved into the Islanders system, joining the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In his first season of pro hockey, the Edina, MN native’s production slowed as he counted just 19 points (including 12 goals) in 73 games and it seemed likely that he would have a lengthy stay in the minors; however, he rebounded in a big way in 2019-20, counting 22 goals and 31 points in 52 games before getting called up to Long Island. Once with the IslandersBellows put up two goals and an assist in eight games before the Covid-19 shut down.

Check out some footage of Kieffer Bellows in action, along with some analysis of his game:

Bellows has been part of hockey card checklists since 2017-18, but will definitely get more hobby interest now that his rookie cards are becoming available. His first NHL/PA-licensed cards are coming out of 2020-21 Upper Deck MVP and 2020-21 O-Pee-Chee boxes, but they definitely will not be his last this collecting season. Bellows has a tremendous offensive upside like his father, and is sure to fill the nets – and top loaders – for years to come.
