Future Watch: Lazaro Armenteros Rookie Baseball Cards, Athletics – Lazaro Armenteros was considered the top Cuban prospect in his class and the Oakland A’s signed him in 2016. In 2012, they signed Yoenis Cespedes, so they have a good track record.
He was 17 at the time he was signed. He once hit .462 in a Cuban tournament so needless to say there was a fair amount of buzz that followed his signing.
In 2017, he finished out the season playing for the AZL Athletics in rookie ball. He had four homers and 22 RBI in just 41 games. His nine doubles, four triples and 16 walks made him a dangerous player. He hit .288 and had a .376 OBP.
In 2018, he started the season with the Beloit Snappers in A-ball. In his first 122 at-bats, 34 games, he had five home runs, 23 RBI and a .303 average. He’s starting to adjust and that’s a scary thought for the opposition and a comforting thought for A’s fans.

Armenteros stands out for his hitting ability, raw power, speed and overall athleticism, the combination of which gives him the potential for four average-or-better tools. His bat speed is explosive and fuels his projection as an average hitter with above-average power, though his bat path through the zone, as well as his approach and overall plate discipline, will need to be ironed out. Armenteros is expected to lose some of his speed and athleticism as he continues to grow into his already physically strong and mature frame. ETA 2021
