Future Watch: Marcus Davenport Rookie Football Cards, Saints – Marcus Davenport was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. This 6-7, 265-pound phenom has been making headlines for quite a few years now.
This defensive end played his college football at the University of Texas at San Antonio, his hometown. In his first season, he played in eight games and had 2.5 sacks.
In 2015, he played in 11 games, he had 30 solo tackles, 49 in total, 7.5 for a loss with four sacks and two forced fumbles.
2016 was a watershed year. In 13 games he had 30 solo tackles, 67 in total, 10 for a loss with 6.5 sacks and a forced fumble. At this point, he was on everybody’s radar.
His senior season was fantastic, and he had 8.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss. Three forced fumbles was a career high as well as the sack total. He ended up First Team All C-USA and C-USA Defensive Player of the Year.
He stood out at the combine running a 4.58, 40-yard dash. He had a 33.5 vertical leap and did 22 reps on the bench press. Those are impressive numbers considering his size and weight.
Considering this budding talent doesn’t have a start this year, he still has four sacks, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Currently, the Saints are a stacked team. He’ll eventually become a starter down the line.
