Future Watch: Matt Puempel Hockey Rookie Cards, Ottawa Senators – Matt Puempel is a first round pick of the Ottawa Senators. He was selected 24th overall in 2011. Since then he’s been scoring a fair amount of goals but as he’s moved up the ladder he’s faced a few more challenges then he did in junior hockey.

At 6′-1″, 205lbs he has the right kind of frame to excel in the NHL. The 22-year-old has speed, he has the ability to finish plus he has a pro shot. He had to work on his 200 foot game. Defense was his challenge and now he’s corrected that.

Last year he got a 13-game stint but proved that he wasn’t ready. He had 5 points but he wasn’t a strong enough two-way player. Now the Ottawa Senators have started out the season on good footing and aren’t really in need of AHL fortification just yet. When they are Puempel could be that next player who is recalled.

Matt Puempel might not have the sexy name but he has the moves. He is also scheduled to have his Young Guns card released next week in 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey.

He also has rookie cards including parallels in:

Matt Puempel has an AHL certified autograph card in last year’s 2014-15 Upper Deck AHL set.

Here is an entertaining video involving Matt at last year’s NHLPA rookie showcase:

Here’s a Puempel highlight video:

He plays both positions on the wing and he’s a good teammate. When the time comes he will get another call up to Ottawa and most expect that he’ll be in the NHL to stay. Now’s the time to stockpile inventory of this emerging star. His journey has taken some time but soon it will all be worth it.
