Future Watch: New York Giants Football Cards, trio to collect – The Giants are one of the great franchises in NFL history, but they have fallen on hard times, and they have been slowly building their team back to respectability. There’s no magic potion, and it takes time. Most would say with a few good free agents and a good draft, the Giants could have a chance to be competitive in a weak NFC East, and these three players should be leading the way.

Saquon Barkley was drafted 2nd overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. In three years at Penn State University, the star running back gained 3,843 yards on 671 carries with 43 rushing touchdowns and eight receiving. Barkley won the Paul Hornung Award in 2017 as well as the All-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017. In the NFL, Barkley has been terrific. He set three franchise rookie records with 11 rushing touchdowns, 1,307 yards, and 15 combined touchdowns. Barkley won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 and will return to form after a severe knee injury prematurely ended his 2020 season.

Daniel Jones was drafted sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. The talented quarterback made his name at Duke University and ever since then the New York media has been skeptical about what he can do in the NFL. Without a good team to work with, “Danny Dimes” has still had some great NFL moments. In his rookie season, Jones became the first NFL frosh to throw for 350 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions in a game against Washington. He was named an offensive team captain in 2020. His clean pocket passer rating is ranked 29th in the NFL at 84.9. If he can have better ball security, that goes up.

Darius Slayton was drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. This 6-1 wide receiver attended Auburn University and while his 11 touchdowns in three seasons weren’t impressive, his route running and pass-catching ability have been solid. In his first NFL game in 2019, he caught three balls for 82 yards. In the first half of Week 14 against the Eagles, the rookie had five catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns by halftime. In 2020, he caught ten balls for 20 yards or more and two for 40 or more. His eight touchdowns were something to build on, and he is the one player profiled here who is currently undervalued in the hobby.
