Future Watch: Oliver Wahlstrom Rookie Hockey Cards, Islanders – Oliver Wahlstrom was selected by the New York Islanders with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. At 5-11, 187, he plays bigger than he is and he came with a lot of fanfare but sometimes it takes some time for the rubber to meet the road with young players.
In 2014-15 and ’15-16, he attended the famed prep school Shattuck St. Mary’s. In two seasons there he amassed 166 points in 108 games! One season he had 68 goals in 65 games.
For two years he played with the National Team Development Program along with Jack Hughes (Devils), Joel Farabee (Flyers), and a ton of talented players. In 125 games, he scored 134 points, 72 were goals and 10 were game-winning goals.
He attended Boston College in 2018-19, but he struggled there saying it wasn’t for him and it showed on the ice. He still had 19 points in 36 games. He turned pro and finished out the season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. He had three points in five games. During that season he played in the U20 World Junior Championship and scored four points in seven games taking home a silver medal. He took home another silver the year before in the U18s.
Collectors can find officially licensed NHL rookie cards of Oliver Wahlstrom in several 2019-20 Upper Deck hockey products including his Young Guns rookie card in Series 2 hockey. He also has other rookies cards in popular Upper Deck products like SP Authentic, SPX, ICE and Trilogy to name a few.

2019-20 was a learning year for him. He started with Bridgeport, once again he represented his country in the U20’s and he had five points in five games. He finished out the paused AHL season with 10 goals and 12 helpers in 22 games. At the age of 20, he’s close to playing in the NHL full time. He has to become better in his own end first. He did get a nine-game cup of coffee with the Islanders scoring no points. Collect him while he’s undervalued. That won’t last long.
