MLB Future Watch: Drew Gilbert Baseball Cards, New York Mets – Drew Gilbert was drafted by the Houston Astros in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft. The 28th overall pick and top pick in the Astros organization turned into the centerpiece of the Mets and Astros Justin Verlander deal at the MLB trading deadline.
In 2019, while in high school, Gilbert was the top-ranked player in Minnesota. He was dual threat pitching and hitting.
In 2020, he attended the University of Tennessee. He made 10 outfield starts and four relief appearances in a Covid shortened season. He went 4-5 with his first home run against George Washington.
In 2021, his sophomore season, he was the only player to play in all 68 games. 67 of them were starts. He hit 12 doubles, 10 home runs with 62 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. His walk-off grand slam helped beat Wright State in the bottom of the ninth inning in the NCAA Regional Opener. He turned into a full-time centerfielder that season.
In 2022, he turned professional starting the season in Rookie Ball and ending it with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in A-Ball. His combined numbers were 1 double, 2 home runs with 6 RBI in short stints.
In 2023, he played for two teams. He started the season in A+ ball and then transferred to Corpus Cristi in AA before the trade. At that point in time, his combined numbers were 19 doubles, 1 triple, 12 home runs, and 38 RBI with 10 steals.
Gilbert looks like former Mets centerfielder, Lenny Dykstra. He has some power and speed, and he’s a good fielder. He checks off a lot of columns. Collectors should add him because he’s going to be in the majors by 2025 if all goes well.
MLB Future Watch: Drew Gilbert Cards Worth Chasing
One card to get is Gilbert’s 2022 Bowman Chrome Prospects. The purple serial-numbered card is cool. It shows him measuring up the pitch trying to keep his lead on first base.
His 2022 Bowman Draft card is another solid selection. The photo shows him after a hit getting ready to run the bases. It’s a nice shot of this exciting prospect.
His 2022 Bowman’s Best Chrome autographed card is limited to just 99, and the autographs are on-card. This card is skyrocketing in value as we speak. Collectors feel he can have an impact with the Mets, and it’s hard to feel any other way.
