This versatile player needed to find a position or positions to play to make it to the next level.

Steer committed to the University of Oregon. In 2017, he hit 12 doubles, 3 triples, 2 home runs, and 35 RBI with 12 stolen bases. He received Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America honors.

In 2018, Steer hit 11 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 home runs with 37 RBI and a .381 on-base percentage. He received two honors after the season ended; All-Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention and Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention.

In 2019, he hit .349 with 13 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, and 57 RBI with a .502 slugging percentage, and .456 on-base percentage. He got a few more accolades, First-Team All-Pac-12 Conference and Pac-12 Conference All-Defensive Team. Then he played for two minor league teams starting in Rookie Ball and ending in Full A playing for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. His combined numbers were 18 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, and 33 RBI with a .280 batting average.

During the pandemic, Steer didn’t play in a single minor league game. It was a tough season.

In 2021, he started in A+ ball and ended up in AA with the Wichita Wind Surge. Steer’s combined numbers were 18 doubles, 3 triples, and 24 home runs with 66 RBI. A great season.

Steer was involved in a trade that sent him to the Cincinnati Reds at the MLB trade deadline. His combined numbers were 30 doubles, 2 triples, 23 home runs with 75 RBI, and a .274 batting average. Steer made his MLB debut that season, hitting 5 doubles, 2 home runs, and 8 RBI. Not a bad start.

In 2023, the MLB Rookie hit 37 doubles, 3 triples, 23 home runs, and 86 RBI with 15 stolen bases. He was named NL Utility Silver Slugger Award Finalist.

One card to get is Steer’s 2023 Bowman Chrome. It’s a nice, clean card showing him batting.

Another card to get is his 2023 Topps Rookie. The photo shows him fielding.

One last card is his 2023 Topps 206 Rookie. The old-school look and painted effect make this a desirable card of a classic late bloomer.
