NBA Future Watch: Ausar Thompson Basketball Cards, ProspectNBA Future Watch: Ausar Thompson Basketball Cards, Prospect – Ausar Thompson is one-half of the unit redefining the name Thompson Twins from ‘80s pop sensations to ‘20s hardcourt superstars. Along with twin brother Amen, Ausar has suited up for the Overtime Elite City Reapers. He is there to sharpen his game for the 2023 NBA Draft.

At 6’7”, 207 lbs., Thompson is already a relatively physically mature swingman just a month short of his 20th birthday. Originally a product of Oakland, Thompson relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL for high school competition. There he averaged 22.6 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 3.4 APG in his junior season. Thompson led Pine Crest School to the state championship and won Co-Player of the Year honors along with Amen.

Departing for Overtime Elite prior to his senior season of high school, Thompson led his squad to the inaugural league championship in 2021-22. He attained Finals MVP honors with 17 PPG and 10 RPG in the best-of-three series. The only player to score 30 points in two games over the course of the season, Thompson was also the only player to tally seven blocks in a game – and did so twice.

Blocks were a major strength of Thompson’s. He led the entire league at 4.4 BPG. Overall, defense is a tremendous calling card of Thompson’s, leading all guards in the league with 9.2 ORB% and 3.9 OREB per 40 minutes. Having faced international competition in Spain and Serbia, Thompson has the footwork, lateral movement, athleticism, size, and intensity to dominate defensively.

A one-time five-star recruit, Thompson is a work in progress as a shooter, especially behind the arc. However, his improvement during his time with Overtime Elite is noticeable. That is certainly the greatest area of focus for Thompson leading up to the draft. Based on the work that Thompson has put in thus far – studying film after every game leading back to early AAU play at age 10 – do not bet against this young man becoming an incredible two-way force in the NBA.
