NBA Future Watch: Brandon Miller Basketball Cards, Charlotte Hornets – Brandon Miller accomplished what few imagined possible last October when Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson had their famed clash in Las Vegas. Miller cracked the top two in the 2023 NBA Draft and relegated Henderson to the third pick with Portland.
Attending Cane Ridge High School in Antioch, TN, Miller’s big breakthrough came during his junior season, where he averaged 23.3 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 4.3 APG, 2.6 BPG and 2.3 SPG. He also captured the first of two consecutive Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year awards. As a senior, Miller ascended to 24.1 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 4.3 APG and 2.3 SPG en route to being named Tennessee Mr. Basketball. Those stats also earned invitations to the Jordan Brand Classic and the McDonald’s All-American Game.
Miller was hotly pursued as a consensus five-star prospect. Alabama was at the forefront of the process. Miller’s father Darrell played football there in the early 1990s. The Crimson Tide successfully reeled in Miller, who became one of their highest-ranked recruits of all time.
In his rookie season Miller become the first SEC player to win SEC Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Tournament MVP in the same season. That same year, he led all Division I freshman in scoring. With 18.8 PPG, 8.2 RPG, .859 FT% and .384 3%, Miller didn’t need more time in college to become a top NBA draft pick.
At 6’9”, 200 pounds, Miller is a combo forward with the ability to score all over the floor. He possesses good athleticism. More bulk will be necessary for defensive purposes at the pro level, as well as the necessary enhanced ability to get to the rim. Although Charlotte has had a poor record for years, they are not lacking in scorers. So, Miller can be brought along at the right pace. There will be every opportunity afforded to Miller to prove that he belonged at the top of a strong NBA draft class.
