NBA Future Watch: Dominick Barlow Basketball Cards, San Antonio Spurs – Dominick Barlow was a stalwart on the Northeast prep scene and is one of the pioneers of the Overtime Elite program. He is a combo forward who also logs moments at center. Barlow’s huge breakthrough came during his junior season at Dumont High School in Dumont, NJ. That year he put up 23.3 PPG and 12.6 RPG. A pandemic-interrupted senior season was even more impressive. He put up 27.6 PPG, 17 RPG, 3.1 APG and 2.6 BPG en route to being named North Jersey Player of the Year. Further solidification of Barlow’s four-star recruit status came at the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. There he led the New York Rens to the Peach Jam semifinals.
Foregoing college in favor of becoming part of the initial crop at Overtime Elite, Barlow stood out with 23.5 PPG, 9.2 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.6 SPG and 1.9 BPG on a Per-40 basis. Barlow popped on some of the advanced stats as well. He ranked in the 92nd percentile in points per transition possession, 77th percentile in points per shot around the rim in the half court, and 70th percentile in points per jump shot.
Notwithstanding posting tremendous physical credentials at the combine – 6’10” and 221 lbs. with a 7’3” wingspan – Barlow left scouts flummoxed by his level of competition over the previous year. Oddly, his dominance led many scouts and coaches to wonder exactly what the talent composition was in Year One of Overtime Elite. As such, Barlow slid through the 2022 NBA Draft. However, he ended up in a very enviable situation, receiving a two-way contract with the Spurs. A breakout performance for their G League affiliate Austin on January 28 – 32 points and 10 rebounds – indicated the rapid pace of his development.
With sharp defensive instincts and a motor to match, the ability to score at all levels and a reputation as an impeccable teammate, Barlow already shows signs of fitting well into San Antonio’s intriguing young core. Improvement with his handle and playmaking will elevate him into a player widely regarded as a star on the rise.
