NBA Future Watch: Jalen Lewis Basketball Cards, Prospect – Jalen Lewis is already assured of his place in history, having become the youngest American professional basketball player ever at age 16. Lewis was featured on the Today Show after making his decision. He proclaimed that he had known since he was three years old that he wanted to play in the NBA. And yet, he is cognizant that other pioneers of professional empowerment like Spencer Haywood never escaped the shadows of expectations. Lewis is working hard to ensure that the most lasting impression is of his prowess on the hardcourt.

A power forward, originally from Oakland, measuring 6’10” and 233 pounds, Lewis’s parents prepared him to develop his mind and body ever since elementary school. Later, thrice-weekly before-school workouts and after-school weight-training took Lewis’s evolution to another level.

As such, it came as no surprise when Lewis reached the level of 20 PPG and 10 RPG by his sophomore season at Bishop O’Dowd High. Additionally, Lewis won a gold medal at the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Mexico.

Therefore, Lewis was highly attractive to Overtime Elite. They struck a deal to bring him in halfway through his high school career as their youngest player. Getting in on the ground floor of the basketball academy’s operations, Lewis posted 20 points on opening night in the fall of 2021 and hit double figures in scoring eight other times. With his minutes inching up in his second season, Lewis is averaging 8.2 PPG and 4.4 RPG. Still-developing size and well-established athleticism are Lewis’s calling cards, which had marked him as a five-star prospect when colleges were still recruiting him. Lewis has modeled his game off Anthony Davis and Karl-Anthony Towns. If his offensive game continues to evolve as it has, don’t be against him matching or exceeding their professional records.
