NFL Future Watch: Christian Gonzalez Football Cards, New England Patriots – Christian Gonzalez was selected by the New England Patriots with the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This 6’1”, 197-pound cornerback from Carrollton, Texas was the second highest-rated corner in the draft. It all started at The Colony High School.
In high school, Gonzalez was a four-star recruit. 24/7 Sports, ESPN, and Rivals also agreed he was a top 50 player in Texas. In his career there, he had 46 tackles, 17 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. As a receiver, he had 65 receptions for 956 yards and 12 touchdowns. Gonzalez had two rushing touchdowns as well. What an athlete.
Gonzalez committed to the Colorado Buffaloes, where he played in 2020 and 2021. As a freshman, he played in all six games during the pandemic.
In 2022 he transferred to Oregon. Still considered a freshman, Gonzalez started all 12 games. Of his 53 tackles, 42 were solo, and that ranked fifth on the team. He took 811 snaps ranking him sixth in Pac-12 corners and made tackles in 10 of the 12 games.
Gonzalez started all 12 games as a sophomore. His four interceptions ranked 12 in the Pac-12. He had 50 tackles, 35 were solo. 11 passes defended ranked him sixth in the Pac-12. His nine passes broken up ranked ninth in the Pac-12. He was named Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention. Gonzalez skipped playing in the bowl game and entered the NFL Draft.
At the 2023 NHL Combine, he ran 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. His vertical was 41.5”, and his broad jump was just over 11 feet. The show that he put on raised his draft stock for sure.
is in his first NFL Training Camp working with some of the best New England Patriots receivers, and he’s holding his own. He might not start as a rookie in this league. However, once he figures it out, he will be very good, and collectors should get ahead of that.
