NFL Future Watch: Darnell Washington Football Cards, Pittsburgh Steelers – Darnell Washington was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 93rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This big tight end has a chance to be a nice target for the Steelers quarterback of the future, whoever that may be.
He first starred at Desert Pines High School in Nevada. Like many athletes, he excelled in two sports. Football, of course, and basketball. Washington was on back-to-back state championship teams in 2016 and 2017. After that, he became a five-star recruit and committed to the University of Georgia.
2020 was his freshman year as a Bulldog. As it is with a lot of big programs, he only played in four games. Washington was productive catching seven passes for 166 yards. That’s a fantastic 23.7 yards per-catch average.
In 2021, he played eight games. He managed to be productive, though he wasn’t playing much. Washington caught 10 balls for 154 yards and one touchdown. His catches went up but yards per catch went down. He palyed on a CFP championship team that year and the year after. That had to be taken into consideration.
In 2022, Washington played a normal schedule and saw action in 15 games. He had a career-high in catches with 28 for 454 yards. That was a 16.2 yards per catch average with two touchdowns. He had a great year at the right time. He was ready to turn pro and head to the NFL Combine.
Washington is almost 6’6” and weighs around 264 pounds. The fact that he ran a 4.64 in the 40-yard dash is amazing. His 31.0” vertical leap to go along with 21 reps on the weight bench enhanced his value. However, it wasn’t enough to be selected into the first two rounds.
In his rookie season with the Steelers, he played in 17 games. He managed to get seven catches even though he was mostly used for his blocking.

One card to get is Washington’s 2023 Panini Absolute Rookie. It’s the classic design, with Washington wearing his Steelers gear.
Another great card is his 2023 Panini Gold Prizm Rookie. The Prizm look is still very popular, and the photo shows him running after the catch. It’s a great color match card, as well. This is a must-have card serial-numbered to just 10.
One last card could be his 2023 Leaf Exotic Autograph Card. The card is numbered to 6 and has a nice design. His autograph is long and lean, and he’s shown in his Georgia gear.
Washington has star potential. Let’s see if he lives up to it.
