NFL Future Watch: Darnell Wright Football Cards, Chicago Bears – Darnell Wright was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the 10th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Bears needed this big offensive tackle to protect whoever their quarterback of the future might be.
Wright first starred at Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia as a three-sport star in football, track and field, and basketball. In 2018 he won the title for the shotput. He was a five-star recruit and was named to the 2019 Under Armour All-America Game to boot.
Wright committed to the University of Tennessee. In his 2019 freshman season, he started seven games and played in 11. While it’s hard to break into a big college program like that, he proved himself. He was named to the 2019 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team.
Wright started in nine of ten games in 2020. He saw 569 snaps and was part of a 540-yard of offense in a game against Vanderbilt.
In 2021, he started all 13 games at left tackle and was around 922 snaps. He was playing 80 or more snaps a game and didn’t allow many sacks. Tennessee set a record for points with 511 and a total offense of 6,174 yards.
In 2022 he set records like not allowing a sack in 19-consecutive games. He saw 2,746 snaps. Consequently, he would turn out to be Tennessee’s highest-drafted offensive lineman since 1991.
At 333 pounds, Wright ran a 5.01 in the 40-yard dash. That is outstanding. His 29.0” vertical showed off his physical abilities.
Wright had a solid training camp for the Bears and played in all 17 games this season. To finish off his first year, he was named to PFWA’s All-Rookie Team. He’s a cut above, and that’s why he’s a must collect.
NFL Future Watch: Darnell Wright Cards Worth Collecting
One card to collect is Wright’s 2023 Panini Prizm Rookie. Numbered to just 400, he’s pictured in his Tennessee gear. It’s a solid card of a future All-Pro.
A color-matching 2023 Panini Prizm Orange Card is near perfection. That will be highly collectible and is numbered to just 249.
One last card is his 2023 Donruss Rated Rookie. It shows Wright in training camp, and the card is different because of the photo. Wearing Bears gear is always appreciated, but the candid shot makes this better.
There aren’t a lot of offensive linemen that you should collect, but Wright is definitely one of them.
