NFL Future Watch: Desmond Ridder Football Cards, Atlanta Falcons – Desmond Ridder was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 74th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. If you are looking for a sleeper to collect, he could be the one. The Falcons drafted him with the intent to eventually win the starting job. Until then, let’s see how he got this far.
Ridder put on a show as a senior at Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky. He threw for 1,319 yards, nine touchdowns, and 668 rushing yards, and 12 rushing touchdowns to lead the team. He was named All-Metro as a result.
Ridder committed to the University of Cincinnati. As a member of the Bearcats, he had to redshirt in his true freshman season.
In 2018, Ridder threw for 2,445 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He added 572 yards rushing with five touchdowns. The American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year Award was his.
In 2019, this quarterback started in all 13 games for the first time. Ridder threw for 2,164 yards and 18 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He ran for 650 yards and five touchdowns. Playing in the 2020 Birmingham Bowl, he passed for 95 yards and a touchdown and ran for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Cincinnati won 38-6 over Boston College, and he was the MVP.
2020 was a big year for this junior. While he only started 10 games due to a pandemic-shortened season, he still threw for 2,296 yards with 19 touchdowns and six interceptions. He ran for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns, and was the AAC Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2021, during his NCAA senior season, Ridder threw for 3,334 yards with 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. He ran for 355 and six touchdowns. There are only so many plays he can make in one season! Cincinnati was 12-0 on the season. After beating the Houston Cougars, they lost their last playoff game to the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide. He was ready for the NFL Draft.
Ridder ran a 4.52 at the NFL Combine. With his running and passing tools, including good accuracy, there was little doubt he would be drafted.
