NFL Future Watch: Jermar Jefferson Football Cards, Detroit LionsNFL Future Watch: Jermar Jefferson Football Cards, Detroit Lions – Jermar Jefferson was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the 257th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was two picks from being Mr. Irrelevant, and yet he managed to have an impact this season on a team that never got on track.

Jefferson made a name for himself at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, California. Like so many gifted players he transferred to Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California. In his high school career between rushing and receiving, Jefferson gained 4,700 yards and 62 touchdowns. Schools were clamoring for him, and he decided on Oregon State University.

In 2018, as a true freshman, Jefferson was finding playing time as a running back. In his second game, he rushed for 238 yards. Three weeks later, he broke out again with 254 yards. His season was terrific. He gained 1,380 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named Pac-12 freshman Offensive Player of the Year.

In 2019, Jefferson returned as a running back. He rushed for 685 yards and eight touchdowns. Not the year he had in 2018 but still good.

Jefferson played in 2020. He gained 858 yards and scored six touchdowns in just six games in a pandemic shortened season. After that season he let the team know that he was foregoing his senior year to enter the NFL Draft.

Jefferson is 5’10”, 206 pounds. He was clocked running a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash on his pro day. The running back has the power to get through the hole and shake tacklers but also has the moves to make them miss. He’s dangerous as a runner or receiver and just needs playing time to prove his worth.

Between missed opportunities and being third or fourth on the depth chart, Jefferson is used to coming off the bench. He did manage to gain 74 yards on the season with two touchdowns. Next season I expect him to get a bigger role, so there’s some lead time to start collecting him.

Cards Worth Chasing

The first card to look at is Jefferson’s 2021 Donruss Rated Rookie. He’s shown in camp taking the rock and most likely gaining some yardage.

His 2021 Panini Certified Rookie Card has an autograph, and the picture looks like a live game photo of him carrying the ball in his Beavers jersey.

The last card to get might be his 2021 Panini Contenders Rookie. It shows him in his Oregon State gear getting ready to find the end zone. Something he will do more of next season.
