NFL Future Watch: Kwity Paye Football Cards, Indianapolis ColtsNFL Future Watch: Kwity Paye Football Cards, Indianapolis ColtsKwity Paye has the potential to be chasing quarterbacks for a long time. Paye was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the 21st overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. This edge rusher has size and strength. At 6’2”, 261 pounds, he’s made a lot of sacks in his past and there can only be more to come.

Paye was born in a refugee camp in Guinea. He and his family moved to Rhode Island when he was just six months old. Paye starred at Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island. He played running back and defensive end there. In his senior season, he was named Gatorade Football Player of the Year. Paye had the options of going to Boston College or the University of Michigan. He chose the latter.

Paye played sparingly as a true freshman and sophomore. In his third year, he started to break out when he had 6.5 sacks for 12.5 loss in yards. 26 solo tackles put him on the map and helped set up what was to come.

The pandemic limited Paye and Michigan to just four games that season. He recorded 12 solo tackles and two sacks, but scouts remembered his previous season. Paye had the honor of being chosen to the second-team All-Big Ten in 2019 and 2020.  He was ready for the NFL Draft.

Paye ran a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash before the NFL Draft. That’s a crazy number that factored into him being a first round pick as an edge rusher and a sack master. It also showed that he can run down the running backs and the quarterbacks. His 9’10” broad jump was impressive, and his vertical jump at 35 ½” seemingly defied gravity.

Paye will soon be double teamed. Once he can get a step on the offensive lineman, he’s gone, and most times the opposing quarterback is going to be thrown for a loss. In the early going of his NFL career, he’s been recording tackles and has recovered a fumble.
