NFL Future Watch: Marvin Mims Football Cards, Denver Broncos – Marvin Mims was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the 63rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This wide receiver is the brother of former New York Jets receiver, Denzel Mims. Denzel is currently on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad. Having a brother in the sport must have been a help as Marvin tried to carve out his career going back to high school. He played at Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas. In his junior season, Mims had 1,158 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was a district MVP, and he later committed to Oklahoma University. The youngest Mims was Mr. Texas Football and was a USA Today High School All-American.
As a Sooner, Mims reported in January 2020 as an early enrollee. In his first game against Missouri State, he had three catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. The next week, he scored two more against Kansas. The freshman season was a big success as he caught 37 passes for 610 yards. His nine touchdowns set a freshman school record. He was second-team All-Big 12 and FWAA Freshman All-American. Mims was off and running.
As a sophomore, he caught 32 passes for 705 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 22 yards per catch, a career-high for the wide receiver. Mims was on his way to having a solid NCAA career.
He became more of an asset to the team in his junior season. Besides receiving, he was also returning kicks and punts . He had his biggest year catching 54 passes for 1,083 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. His 20.1 yards per catch average was sixth in the country. He got honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors for his punt returns. Then, he declared he was entering the NFL Draft.
At the 2023 NFL Combine, he ran a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash. That, and a 39.5” vertical, proved he was ready for the draft.
With Denver, he was used sparingly catching 22 passes for 377 yards and one touchdown.
