NFL Future Watch: Tyler Allgeier Football Cards, Atlanta Falcons – Tyler Allgeier was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This running back has a low center of gravity that helps him bust through the line.
He got started at Henry J. Kaiser High School in Fontana, California. Allgeier had 5,000 yards and 56 touchdowns in his high school career. At that point, he committed to Brigham Young University.
The 2018 season was his redshirt year. He had some yards rushing and returning kicks, but he only played in four games.
In 2019, he played in every game and saw some time as a linebacker and kick returner. He had 26 tackles and .5 sacks, a forced fumble as well as 186 combined yards with one touchdown.
2020 was a breakout season for Allgeier. He had 150 carries for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns.
In 2021, he was one of 3 offensive players to play in all 13 games. Allgeier had 276 carries for 1,601 yards and 23 touchdowns (tied for the NCAA lead for running backs). His 5.8 yards per carry was outstanding. He was a Sporting News Second Team All-American and was on the watchlist for most of the major awards.
At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.60 in the 40. That’s not very fast, but he is a bigger guy. His 10-foot broad jump and 21 reps on the weight bench were noticed for sure. Allgeier can run up the gut and he can bounce it outside to go all the way. He’s a versatile back who has good hands as a receiver too.
Allgeier is making an impact this season. In Week 2, he ran for 84 yards. His long was 42 yards. In Week 6, he found the endzone. So far, through six games, he managed to gain 285 yards on 70 carries and a 4.1 yards per carry average. He’s worth collecting.
