NFL Future Watch: Will Anderson Jr. Football Cards, Prospect – Will Anderson Jr. is widely considered one of the best pass rushers in the 2023 NFL Draft. At 6’4” 243-pounds, he is a special kind of athlete. The kind that gives quarterbacks nightmares.
He attended Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia. As a senior in 2019, he had 22 sacks and 15 tackles for a loss. He was named to the Atlanta Constitution “Super 11” team and played in the 2020 All-American Bowl. Anderson committed to the University of Alabama.
Anderson earned his spot as a linebacker in 2020. In 13 games, he had 33 solo tackles and 52 total. He had seven sacks which equaled a 39-yard loss for the opposition and a forced fumble. Against Ohio State University, he had the program’s first blocked field goal since 2017! He was named Second-Team All-SEC. Plus Alabama was the CFP National Champion.
In 2021, he played 15 games and blew up, with 58 solo tackles, 102 in total. He had 17.5 sacks for -108 yards and three passes defended.
Anderson was the Cotton Bowl Classic MVP. In that game and , he had two sacks for -12 yards and two tackles for a loss, tying a team-high in that bowl game. He was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year and won the Bronko Nagurski Award for the NCAA’s best defensive player as voted by the Football Writers Association of America. Alabama won the CFP National Championship again.
2022 was his junior season. He played in 13 games and had 24 solo tackles and 51 in all. Anderson had 10 sacks for a 54-yard loss, a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown, and two passes defended. He won the Lombardi Award, the Nagurski Award for a second time, the Lott Trophy, the Chuck Bednarik Award, and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year a second-consecutive season. Anderson was also a Consensus All-American for the second straight season.
At the NFL Combine, Anderson ran a disappointing 4.6 in the 40-yard dash. He is falling, but some team will get a steal even if he’s 10th overall. My guess is he goes in the top five, but let’s see what happens. He’s the best EDGE rusher in the draft.
