NHL Future Watch: Bobby McMann Hockey Cards, Toronto Maple Leafs – Bobby McMann wasn’t the first and won’t be the last player to go undrafted. He was in the Toronto Maple Leafs system for more than a few years when they eventually signed him. This 6’2” forward can play a tough game and has the ability to put points up on the board.
McMann’s path to the NHL was a long one. He spent three seasons playing for the Bonnyville Pontiacs. The AJHL produced Cale Makar, and a few others. After scoring 36 goals and 68 points in his last season there, McMann got the attention of Colgate University.
2016-17 was his first season at Colgate. He only produced 19 points in 35 games.
By 2018-19, he was wearing the “A” for Colgate. But his numbers dropped. He had 14 goals the season before.
In 2019-20, as the team captain, scored 10 goals and 10 assists. Not bad. That got him signed by the Leafs. He played for the Marlies and the Wichita Thunder in the ECHL. McMann had 21 points in 39 games.
2021-22 was a breakthrough year with the Leafs ECHL affiliate, the Newfoundland Growlers. Four points in four games got him called up to the Marlies where he posted 35 points. He was on management’s radar.
In 2022-23, he had 21 goals in 30 games for the Marlies. That got him a 10-game stint with the Leafs where he scored one point in ten games.
In 2023-24, McMann had three points in six games with the Marlies. Then he got a primetime chance with the Maple Leafs due to a lot of team injuries. This time, he’s sticking. In 28 games, as a fourth liner, he is producing. He has five goals and five assists in his first 28 games. Against the St. Louis Blues, he got his first career hat trick.
