NHL Future Watch: Colby Barlow Hockey Cards, Winnipeg Jets – Colby Barlow was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets with the 18th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. This natural goal scorer had one of the best, if not the best shot in the draft. One thing every team in the NHL needs is goal scorers, and Barlow fits that bill.
In 2021-22, Barlow burst on the scene with the Owen Sound Attack. The 6’1” almost 200-pound wing looks like a man. He scored 30 goals in 47 games and added five goals and one assist in six playoff games. It was a great first season. He was named to the OHL First All-Rookie Team.
Barlow is a character guy. His teammates say it, his coaches say it, and he proved it by being team captain in just his second season. That season was one for the ages. He scored 49 goals in 56 games. Add in 33 assists, and that’s a heck of a season. Also noted was his 33 PIMS, a low total considering he plays against the other teams’ best players.
The postseason was strong too as he scored three goals in four games. During that season, Barlow played for Team Canada in the U18s where he scored three goals with one assist in six games taking home a bronze medal.
During that 2022-23 season, Barlow played in the Hlinka. He had two goals and three assists in five games and took a gold medal back to Canada. By the season’s end, he impressed a lot of people by becoming the OHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year.
Barlow possesses a great wrist shot. That shot has a very fast release, and he shoots it with deadly accuracy. Being a dangerous goal scorer will translate to the next level. Barlow establishes the crease wreaking havoc around the net. He knows what kind of player he is, and that will enable him to play in the NHL soon.
