NHL Future Watch: Yaroslav Askarov Hockey Cards, Nashville Predators – Yaroslav Askarov was drafted by the Nashville Predators with the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. This talented Russian netminder has a great reputation. Many believe he has the pedigree to be a starting goaltender in the NHL someday. Current starter, Juuse Saros had to wait for Pekka Rinne to step aside, and right now Askarov is waiting as well.
His big highlights in 2019-20 were important for his development. He led Russia to a Hlinka Gretzky Cup gold medal. During the World Juniors, he led Russia to a silver.
In 2020-21, Askarov played at three different levels of hockey including the KHL with Ska St. Petersburg. There, he played in nine games, was 5-4, with a 1.21 goals against average and an amazing .951 save percentage. During the season, he participated in his second World Juniors and was voted a Top 3 Player on his team.
2021-22 was much of the same. He posted a 1.81 goals-against average in the KHL and a better .937 in three VHL playoff games. After that, he turned professional and sat on the bench for the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.
He played most of the year with the Admirals in 2022-23. In 48 games, Askarov posted a 2.69 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Then, in 12 playoff games, he posted a 2.70 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. He got a game with Nashville too, making it a solid year for him.
In 2023-24, he started the year with Milwaukee again. That’s fine, as the Russian is only 21. In his first 15 games, he had 2.45 goals-against average with a .915 save percentage. Askarov was called up to Nashville once again, but probably for another short stint.
NHL Future Watch: Yaroslav Askarov Cards Worth Collecting
One card to get is Askarov’s 2022-23 Artifacts Rookie Dual Jersey Relics. It’s a nice looking card with two pieces of his jersey featuring him in his Predators gear.
His best card is his 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Rookie. The card has a classic design with an action shot from one of Askarov’s NHL appearances, which makes it more fun.
Another cool card is his 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Rookie Canvas in black and white. It really looks great, especially since Askarov is scrunched down waiting for the action to come to him.
