Hayes was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1992. He played for Noble and Greenough School before attending Boston College in 2011. In his first three NCAA seasons, he scored 67 points (17 goals, 50 assists) and was a member of the school’s 2012 National Championship team. He broke out as a senior with 27 goals and 38 assists. This earned him a top ten nomination for the Hobey Baker Award. He was also named MVP of the 2014 Beanpot Tournament.

He was initially drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks before joining Boston College but his draft rights expired in August of 2014. He became an unrestricted free agent and signed with the New York Rangers on an entry-level contract. Hayes scored his first career NHL goal in a win over the San Jose Sharks on October 19th, 2014. He finished his first season with 45 points (17 goals, 32 assists). Collectors can find Kevin Hayes’ Young Guns rookie card in 2014-15 Upper Deck Series Two Hockey.

At the trade deadline during the 2018-19 season, he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets. He scored his first goal as a Jet (an empty-netter) in a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators.

On June 3rd, 2019, Hayes’ rights were traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick. Later that month, the Flyers would sign Hayes to a seven-year contract. So far this season, Hayes has played in 13 games for the Flyers. He has seven points (four goals, three assists). Look for him to appear on trading cards in a Philadelphia Flyers uniform in upcoming 2019-20 Upper Deck Hockey products.
