Off The Post: Throwback Thursday with Jack Eichel! – There are few who can match the pure talent that Jack Eichel has on the hockey rink and today, in a very special edition of Off The Post, we look back at the young superstar as he prepared to enter the NHL.

In 2015, Eichel was considered one of the elite prospects and a generational talent in wait. The Buffalo Sabres, picking in the number two spot behind the Edmonton Oilers, seemed assured of nabbing the young American, who was only ranked behind Connor McDavid on scouting sheets. The Herd made good on this forecast and selected Eichel.

Collectors soon clamored for any Eichel cards available and waited with baited breath for his rookie cards to appear. There was one hitch though – Eichel autographed hockey cards weren’t going to appear as they would for most phenoms. Leaf signed Eichel to an exclusive contract, guaranteeing that they would solely have his signature for eager collectors.

The gamble paid off both for Leaf and the hobby, as Eichel burst onto the scene, scoring in his first NHL game. Since then, Eichel has done nothing but impress. He has never scored less than 24 goals in the NHL and has had a huge breakout this year, potting 36 goals and 78 points in 68 games.

Eichel’s career has also seen incredible moments on the international scene, as he captured multiple medals in U-18 action and a bronze medal in 2015 with the American team at the World Senior Men’s Championship.

The accolades and accomplishments have gone hand in hand with a rising hobby profile for the young Eichel. Not only are those early Leaf and Upper Deck cards worth their weight in gold, but they have been joined by countless other pieces, including cards, figurines and most everything else.

Join us now for this special interview with Jack Eichel, as he talks about the NHL Draft experience with Russ Cohen. You can listen to the Off the Post podcast HERE.
