Soccer Future Watch: Ederson Soccer Cards, Manchester City – Ederson Santana de Moraes, known simply as Ederson, is one of the greatest goaltenders of his generation. Emerging from Brazil as so many have done, Ederson was earmarked for grand production at a young age. Just a single season with Sau Paulo FC was needed before he was able to graduate to Benfica in Portugal at age 16.
By 2016, Ederson had a firm grip on the hotly contested starting job and led Benfica to their third consecutive Primeira Liga title. A year later, Ederson and the team would add their fourth straight league championship. They would add to it trophies from Taça de Portugal and Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.
2017 will go down as the breakthrough year of Ederson’s career. He debuted for Brazil’s national team in a 3-0 win over Chile in a World Cup qualifier. Additionally, he joined Manchester City for what was at that time the second-highest transfer fee ever posted for a goalie. Five of the seven
Premier League championships that Manchester City has won have come since Ederson’s acquisition. He has captured the Premier League Golden Glove three times since then. He’s earned the IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper Award and Best FIFA Goalkeeper Award. Ederson also led Brazil to the 2021 Copa America title.
With prototypical strength, reflexes and instincts, Ederson has managed to stand out for the other aspects that he brings to his game. Like the way that Bobby Orr innovated the capacity for defensemen to impact the offense in hockey, Ederson’s capacity for passing – including occasional bombs downfield – provides a launching pad for the Manchester City offense that other goalies cannot replicate. On August 19, 2018, Ederson became the first goalie to notch an assist for Manchester City in Premier League play.
Predictably, Ederson has a wealth of memorabilia on the market, autographed in many instances, such as the UEFA Champions League Momentous Material Prime Patches. The wave of cards and stickers largely dates to Ederson’s emergence in the Premier League in 2017. Topps and Panini are well-represented in Ederson’s collections. Types such as Impeccable and National Treasures are represented.
