Tennis Future Watch: Coco Gauff Tennis Cards – Coco Gauff announced her presence on the professional stage in 2019 at age 15 with a shocking first-round upset of Venus Williams at Wimbledon. That, after she had already become the youngest player to reach the main draw in the Open era. Fittingly, four years later, Gauff etched her name alongside another tennis legend by becoming the youngest American to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999. In between those milestones, Gauff meticulously built a record of accomplishment that positioned her for this breakthrough and several more down the road.
Gauff’s athleticism comes naturally, with a father who played college basketball and a mother who ran track and field in college. Gauff’s parents sensed her potential very early in her youth and sacrificed tremendously to help her develop her skills. Their faith paid off relatively quickly, as Gauff became the youngest USTA Clay Court National 12-and-under champion at just over 10 years-old. Subsequently becoming the world’s top-ranked junior player, Gauff 
made her junior Grand Slam debut at the 2017 US Open and made it all the way to the finals. In 2018, Gauff won the junior French Open and made the finals at Wimbledon and again at the US Open.
Progress through the pandemic era came in fits and starts before Gauff’s first Grand Slam singles final at the 2022 French Open. But that loss to Iga Swiatek would be avenged in the finals of the 2023 Cincinnati Open. That event often foreshadows success at Arthur Ashe Stadium – as Gauff’s success did. Well-established on the sponsorship circuit, Gauff is poised to follow in the footsteps both on and off the court of her heroes, the Williams sisters. With Gauff having eliminated the one hole in her game, the forehand side, she is poised for a long career of big success and mainstream appeal.
