WNBA Future Watch: A’ja Wilson Basketball Cards, Las Vegas Aces – A’ja Wilson is on the front end of her pro career with the Las Vegas Aces. However, she has already built a resume as one of the greatest winners in the history of the game. With championships at the high school, college, Olympic and WNBA levels, Wilson has shown dominance on every stage that she has graced.
A’ja’s father, former pro basketball player and Steely Dan fan Roscoe Wilson named her after the group’s hit of the same name. First playing varsity basketball as an eighth-grader, Wilson had impressive numbers over her five-year career. She posted 24.7 PPG, 13.9 RPG and 4.3 BPG at the power
forward position. It was little wonder that Wilson was a Parade and McDonald’s All-American, the National High School Player of the Year. She was also ESPN’s top overall recruit in the 2014 class. Staying in-state, Wilson committed to South Carolina.
History awaited Wilson in a Gamecock jersey, leading her squad to their first-ever national championship. She was a three-time Consensus All-American and Consensus National Player of the Year. As the all-time SEC leader in points, blocks, free throws made and 20-point games, Wilson was a lock to be the first pick of the 2018 WNBA Draft.
Four years later, Wilson rewarded Las Vegas’s faith with a league title. In between those points, more accolades accumulated: Rookie of the Year, four-time All-Star and two-time MVP. Wilson was also voted MVP of the 2022 FIBA World Cup.
The picture of strength, efficiency, and consistency, Wilson’s 2022 campaign was her best across the board with 19.5 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 2.1 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.9 BPG, .501 FG% and .813 FT%. With a dizzying blend of skills and leadership, Wilson’s resume puts her in line to be considered the best of all time by the end of her career.
