Breaking Barriers: Caitlin Clark, Iowa HawkeyesBreaking Barriers: Caitlin Clark, Iowa Hawkeyes – Caitlin Clark has likely never seen a barrier she couldn’t break. Even more likely, she never saw a barrier in the first place. From a young age, she set her sights and went and got what she wanted. Interest in women’s sport is blowing up, and there is no doubt Clark is playing a key role in the explosion. She has put “logo 3” into everyday vernacular, and her name has become synonymous with record breaking. On the court, or off, Clark is at the top.

Here are a few of the highest of the highlights on the court. For a more comprehensive list, check out her player profile below.

Breaking Barriers: Caitlin Clark, Iowa HawkeyesWhile Clark is the best in so many ways, she still has a few records left to chase. Most notably are scoring records. Next in reach is the Men’s NCAA record held by Pete Marovich at 3667 points. Then come two records set in non-NCAA settings. Miriam Walker is the NAIA leader with 3,855 points set from 1986-1990. Pearl Moore’s record of 4,061 points set from 1975-1979 is the highest ever in women’s college basketball.

Clark has set the sales record for a women’s basketball card. An autographed card sold for $78,000 in January of this year. The only record left to chase in that arena is Serena Williams’ record for a female athlete at $266,400.

As of February 21, 2024, Clark hasn’t committed to returning to Iowa next year or heading to the WNBA. More college records and NIL deals could be a pull for her. Yet, leveling up to the pros must be enticing as well. Either way, there is no denying hers is a name that won’t soon go away. It will be exciting to see future athletes who are inspired to set records because they were touched by the “Caitlin Clark Effect.”

Clark’s cards can be found in 2022-23 Bowman University Chrome and 2023-24 Bowman University Chrome.
