Future Watch: Gianluca Busio Soccer Cards, Sporting KC – Sporting KC midfielder Gianluca Busio is a player who is still very young and yet has already had plenty of first team experience. When Busio signed for Sporting in August 2017, he was barely 15 years old and was the second-youngest signing in league history at the time. His first action came in 2018 when he made seven appearances and had a goal and an assist.
Busio had three goals and an assist in the 2019 season while making 22 appearances and 10 starts. This regular season, Busio had one goal and three assists. While the stats don’t jump off the page for him, Busio’s skill and talent level are easily on display when he plays.
Busio “thinks” the game very well. He plays quickly and makes good decisions, especially in support of the attack. His passing is solid and he is unselfish and not timid in trying to exploit defenses. He can settle the ball quickly with an excellent first touch and gets his shot away quickly as well. He needs to work on his finishing, which I believe will improve over time.
Busio is still just 18 years old and has plenty to improve upon overall but you can see the knowledge and ability are there for a him to develop into a truly special, top class player. There have been plenty of rumors swirling around Busio and European clubs with an eye out for him and it does not surprise me at all. He can thrive at the highest levels.
Busio has yet to make his full U.S. International debut but he has had success at the youth levels. In U-17 World Cup qualifying, he scored five goals. Despite the team underperforming at the 2019 U-17 World Cup, Busio scored the only goal for the United States in group stage play.
