Future Watch: Giovanni Reyna Soccer Cards, Borussia Dortmund – One of the brightest young attacking players in world football bears the last name that should be very familiar to longtime American soccer fans. Giovanni Reyna is that player and he is the son of one of the best to ever play for the United States, the legend Claudio Reyna.

Giovanni, still only 17, plays in the midfield for the German powerhouse club Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund is the club where another young American phenom, Christian Pulisic, began his pro career. Giovanni came to Dortmund after spending time in the NYCFC (MLS) Academy.

The young Reyna is an offensive force. He has all the essential skills to become one of the best players in the world. Reyna has the vision, touch and speed already at a master level. He is electric with the football at his feet and is more than willing to beat defenders off the dribble. There is also a brilliance about how he sees the pitch and what is yet to develop. His reading of the game is well beyond his years.

One thing that is also so exciting about Reyna’s game is how he already has gelled with another young wunderkind at Dortmund, teammate Erling Haaland. Reyna and Haaland are so often on the same page and clicking together in the opponents’ final third. In the early match against Frieburg this season, Reyna beautifully set up two Haaland goals and added another helper on a well struck corner kick for a hat trick of assists. Reyna also scored a goal this campaign against Borussia Moenchengladbach on a superb run and finish inside the penalty area.

Reyna made his major cardboard debut early this year in 2019-20 Bundesliga Chrome, and he has now been included in the recently released Museum Collection. He will definitely be a fixture for years to come as the future looks nothing but bright for this second generation budding superstar.
