Future Watch: Jackson Yueill Rookie Soccer Cards – Earthquakes – One of the top players to emerge recently from the Matias Almeyda coached San Jose Earthquakes side is midfielder Jackson Yueill. The 23-year-old Yueill was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
Yueill had a breakout season in 2019 for the Quakes. In 32 appearances, he had three goals and five assists. Overall, in 68 MLS league appearances, Yueill has the three goals and has chipped in with nine assists.
The young man from Minnesota is a skilled player with a predominantly right footed approach. He is smooth on the ball, can pass with vision and good touch and likes to make his presence felt offensively. But, Yueill also digs in defensively and has a fearless approach to his game. That will serve him well for club and country.
There is a confidence to his game, which is very well rounded. He has some flair and an ability to create. He is not afraid to go at opponents and get mixed in with them physically. Yueill is the type of midfielder that can succeed in Europe.
For the U.S. Men’s National side, Yueill is beginning to have an impact as well. He made his debut in June of last year against Jamaica and has seven caps overall for the Red, White and Blue. Yueill also played for the U.S.’ youth U-18 and U-20 squads.
There is competition at his position for the national team as we get closer to the 2022 World Cup. But I expect Yueill to be in the mix and make Gregg Berhalter’s roster decisions for that position very difficult. If healthy, I would like to see him play for the U.S. in Qatar.
Currently, Jackson Yueill only has a handful of cards, all of which are in 2017 Topps MLS.
