MLB Future Watch: Luis Verdugo Baseball Cards, Chicago Cubs – Luis Verdugo was signed to an international free agent contract back in 2017. His brother, Alex Verdugo, currently plays for the Boston Red Sox and is one of their top players. The bloodline is strong with this player.
In 2018, Verdugo played Rookie-Ball in Arizona. He had 4 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 20 RBI, and five steals. It showed how this infield prospect can fill the stat sheet.
In 2019, since he was just 18, Verdugo played a second season in Arizona. That was smart. He was young and had to adjust to everything in the U.S. since he hails from Mexico. His numbers went up, he hit 9 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs, and 38 RBI with eight steals and a .305 batting average. Verdugo’s batting average the season before was just .193.
In 2020-21, Verdugo played in A-Ball for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. His numbers leveled off a bit hitting 12 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, and 25 RBI with 2 steals. He played second, shortstop, and third base but most of his time was at third.
Verdugo started the 2021-22 season in A+ ball with the South Bend Cubs. He was ready for the jump. Verdugo smacked 27 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 41 RBI, and a .352 on-base percentage. At one point this season, he had reached base in 20-straight games. Verdugo has shown some clutch hitting as well. This player continues to improve, and the 2022 season isn’t over yet.
Verdugo has a spread-out stance, he has a quick bat, and he makes a fair amount of contact. He has speed on the bases with a good glove in the field and a strong arm in the field. Shortstop is a tough position to maintain as a rookie, but third base seems like his calling.
MLB Future Watch: Luis Verdugo Baseball Cards Worth Chasing
One card to get would be his 2022 Bowman 1st. He’s pictured at-bat in his Cubs gear. It’s a good-looking card and one that isn’t too hard to get.
The next level up is his Bowman Chrome Autographed Refractor. The speckled blends well with the blue of the Cubs uniform. The card is serial-numbered to 299, so it’s not impossible to get, and the quality of the autograph is very strong. Collectors will appreciate that.
I really like the 2022 Bowman Chrome Atomic Refractor. It’s a card that looks like the inside of a crystal cave. It stands out, and it’s numbered to 100.
