Future Watch: Top Five MLB Prospects of 2020: Here are my top five baseball prospects that I profiled in 2020, appearing in no particular order. It’s a great group of athletes for sure.

Bobby Witt Jr. – Even though trades are occurring around baseball, you won’t see any involving Bobby Witt Jr. The Kansas City Royals see their all-around shortstop as a core piece to their future. The 20 year-old played 37 games in rookie ball in 2019 but nothing competitively in 2020. After going through Spring Training in July as a non-roster shortstop, Witt Jr. was assigned to the alternate training site, where he scrimmaged and sharpened his skills. In 2021, he will get invited to spring training again, and then we’ll see where he’s at. As far as collecting, he’s a tantalizing prospect for sure.

Ronny Mauricio – This prospect is widely looked at as the Mets shortstop of the future. When he gets there is the big question since they still have Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez, who both play that position. He’s one of the team’s five best prospects, and fans of the Metropolitans are hoping that he’s not included in a deal for a veteran – they want to see him play in Flushing. He’s currently playing in the Dominican Winter League, and the organization is talking about his athleticism and his future in New York. He’s only 19 and highly collectible.

Estevan Florial – This New York Yankee has moved around on the team’s top prospects list. He can play the outfield or DH, and his time playing winter ball in the Dominican League has been prosperous. He hit .280 with 14 hits, one home run, and five RBI in 18 games. He also did not make any errors while in center field which is very encouraging and played some right field as well. As a potential leadoff hitter, Florial is worth collecting because he could hit big in the Big Apple someday soon.

Spencer TorkelsonTorkelson just made the cover of Baseball America, and he’s been ranked as the Detroit Tigers top prospect. The team has a decent system and now it looks like he’ll be the first baseman of the future, barring a move to third to get this great athlete in their lineup. All of this is still on the table, and the prospect has worked out at both positions recently. At Arizona State, Torkelson hit more home runs (25) than Barry Bonds, who held the freshman record with 11. He’s a no-brainer to collect.

Bo Bichette – He’s the son of Dante Bichette, but Bo Bichette is a different kind of player. The entire city of Buffalo showed up when he was starring with the Bisons, and then he started to set rookie records with the Toronto Blue Jays. He is a spark plug, and the Jays are trying to bring in a few more names to make the 2021 season even more exciting. Bichette is just scratching the surface, he will be fun to collect.
