Future Watch: Top Five NHL Prospects of 2020 – Here’s the list of my top NHL prospects which I profiled this year, in no particular order. It’s an interesting mix of players.

Dominik Kubalik – This goal-scorer took the city of Chicago by storm. He arrived from the National League in Switzerland, skipped the AHL and scored 30 goals in his rookie season while finishing third in the Calder voting. Can he do it again? With Kirby Dach and Jonathan Toews out to start the season, Kubalik and Patrick Kane will be asked to provide a large chunk of the offense for the Blackhawks. He should have no problem doing just that. Keep collecting this player.

Nick Suzuki – The Habs struck pay dirt when they acquired Suzuki in the Max Pacioretty deal. Imagine getting a fast, smart, offensively creative center at the age of 21! He is talented enough to be a second-line pivot, but the Canadiens have some depth at that position. Suzuki amassed 41 points in his shortened rookie season and he was a reason his team made the playoffs, where he had seven points in 10 games. He shined brightly in Game Five against the Flyers and his clutch play makes him a must collect.

Jack Studnicka – There are changes going on in Boston and Jack Studnicka could be a big part of the next generation core. The 2019-20 campaign was a big season of development for the 21-year-old forward. His year started in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, but in November he got the call to the big club and played a few games to give him a spark. It worked and he scored 23 goals in 60 games. After the Covid-19 pause, the talented prospect was on the return-to-play roster. He got in five playoff games. Studnicka has a real chance to break out in 2021. Collectors beware!

Rasmus Sandin – The Toronto Maple Leafs are poised for a big season and one of the key contributors could be Rasmus Sandin. He started this past season with the Leafs but was eventually sent to the AHL’s Marlies. In the middle of the season, he represented Sweden in the 2020 World Junior Championship, and he was voted Best Defenseman, an All-Star and he won a bronze medal. This year, he should be a starter, if not there’s a taxi squad that he may spend time on. Either way, he’s going to play in the NHL again and start proving himself. A must collect.

Nick Robertson – The Leafs love this player and he will be talked about all season long. The Buds held him back from playing in the World Junior Championship so he could compete for a starting job in camp. He’s fast, smart, and has a great skill level. The talented winger made his NHL debut in the playoffs and scored one goal in four games. Robertson might be on the taxi squad to start, but he will see action. There’s still time to collect him before he blows up.
