Future Watch: Heliot Ramos Rookie Baseball Cards, GiantsFuture Watch: Heliot Ramos Rookie Baseball Cards, GiantsHeliot Ramos was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 19th overall pick in the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft. Baseball America rated him as the best power hitter, best outfielder and best athlete in his draft class. That’s a lot of hype.

He reported to rookie ball in Arizona after the draft. In 138 at-bats he hit six home runs, 27 RBI and 11 doubles. He hit .348 in 34 games. He was off and running.

The talented outfielder played for the Augusta Green Jackets in 2018 in A-Ball. In 485 at-bats he slugged 24 doubles, eight triples, 11 homers, and 52 RBI.

In 2019, he started with the San Jose Giants in Double-A. In 294 at-bats he had 18 doubles, 13 homers, and 40 RBI. He hit .308 and that got him a promotion to Triple-A. But in the meantime, he played “Fall Ball” to get ready for the transition.

Collectors can find his cards in 2017 Bowman Draft, 2018 Bowman Chrome, 2018 Bowman’s Best, 2018 Bowman High Tek and all of Bowman’s 2019 Baseball Card sets.

According to his MLB.com Prospect Profile:

Ramos’ 2018 struggles weren’t entirely unexpected because at age 18 he was the youngest regular in the South Atlantic League, and he did make improvements over the course of the season. His bat speed and strength remain impressive, giving him the raw power to crush home runs to all fields. He needs to develop a more patient approach to make enough contact to do damage against advanced pitching, though his strikeout rate decreased from 2017 (32 percent) to 2018 (25 percent). While Ramos displayed plus speed in a pre-Draft workout, he plays as more of a solid runner and could slow a bit more as his muscular frame continues to mature. ETA 2021

Here’s a look at him at the plate:

He’s only 20 so the Giants are taking the right precautions with him. There’s no reason to think he won’t be an MLB regular in another year and possibly a September call-up this season.
